Component 1 will help you to understand the requirements of being a performer, by exploring a range of exciting and varied performances and performance styles.

You will develop knowledge and understanding of a range of performance styles like Physical Theatre, Musical Theatre and Naturalism.

You will look at theatrical production elements such as roles, responsibilities and the application of relevant skills and techniques.

You will broaden your knowledge through observing some of the most interesting and impactful repertoire both live and recorded.

You will learn about the approaches of some incredible, inspiring practitioners, and how they have created/create and influence performance material with their groundbreaking work.

A.2D1 Assess the stylistic qualities of practitioners' work using considered examples to show how roles, responsibilities and skills contribute to creative intentions and purpose across three performance styles.

B.2D2 Explain the interrelationships between processes, skills and approaches used by practitioners, with considered reference to examples of repertoire used to demonstrate how they contribute effectively to performance work.

Learner evidence satisfies all Level 2 Distinction criteria.

Evidence for the assignment:

You will produce a written report, presentation, vlog or other similar evidence of understanding of the stylistic qualities of a range of live and/or recorded dance, acting and musical theatre performances.

You will investigate the work of practitioners and how it contributes to the creative intentions and purpose of the piece using examples from across three performance styles.

For Level 2 Distinction:

You will analyse performance work through assessing how roles, responsibilities and skills of practitioners contribute to the creative intentions and purpose of the piece.

Learners will present and justify considered selected examples....

For example, in response to how stylistic qualities are used, a Distinction learner would be able to:
• give specific examples of how stylistic qualities have been used in different performance styles, for example ballet, jazz, street
• analyse the roles, responsibilities and contributions of practitioners in relation to a number of performance styles, e.g. naturalism, physical theatre, epic theatre.

Learners’ analysis and findings will be presented to a high standard, with accurate use of subject-specific terminology and effective presentation techniques.
